F.A.Q.

So, what is this project all about?
The movement of AI-generated photography has accelerated at blinding speed, and without much consideration of the broader ideas of how AI fits within the heritage of photography.

Gregory Eddi Jones’ 49/23 is a body of work that establishes a bridge between the past and future of photographic production; a meta-commentary on the relationships between photography and artificial intelligence.

What does the title “49/23” refer to?
49/23 refers to the years of publication of the original source material (1949) and these new images (2023). The title functions as a timestamp to mark this turning point in photography's history as AI begins its upheaval of photographic tradition.

How did you decide how to pair the pages with the AI images?
T
he AI prompts that the artist used are based on existing images and texts from the magazine pages; a call and response to allow history to guide the production of new pictures. The imagery that Jones has selected also function as visual metaphors for various reflections on what AI means for photography, conceptually, emotionally, and historically.

How many pieces are in the collection?
The total collection size is 111 1/1s.

The work is comprised of 91 “positives” and 20 “negatives,” paying homage to the medium’s historical defining positive/negative character while introducing a core rarity dynamic. Further rarities include page numbers, panel counts, and titles for each of the subjects that appear in the collection. Each work is unique.

Note: 6 pieces from the collection will be pre-minted and reserved for the artist and Assembly.

What is the price to mint and how many mints are allowed per wallet?
0.2 ETH, maximum of 3 mints/wallet

How does the Allowlist work?
The mint is offered to two allowlists—one for existing collectors and one for raffle winners. Both lists will be eligible to mint when the drop begins.

Allowlist I includes existing collectors of the artist and select Assembly Curated collections. A snapshot will be taken approximately 48 hours before the mint to determine the wallets for this list. In addition, a limited number of allowlist spots will be offered to friends of the artist.
